Some Arlington nonprofits will get a big boost on North Texas Giving Day.On Thursday, Sept. 20, Arlington Tomorrow Foundation will present Arlington Gives!, a concert at Levitt Pavilion and giveaway of $50,000 to registered charities.“We want to put a spotlight on Arlington-based nonprofits,” said Carolyn Mentesana, the Executive Director of The Arlington Tomorrow Foundation. “North Texas Giving Day is the perfect opportunity to draw attention to the good work they do.”Sponsored by the Communities Foundation of Texas, North Texas Giving Day is an annual giving event that helps build awareness and support for nonprofits. Participating nonprofits earn a partial match for donations received over an 18-hour period.North Texas Giving Day is the largest community-wide giving event in the nation. Since its launch, donors have raised $195 million for the community.Arlington Gives! will feature Jimmie Vaughn, an Austin-based blues rock guitarist, singer and multiple Grammy Awards winner. The concert is free and open to the public.Food trucks will start serving at 6 p.m., and a nonprofit showcase will begin at 6:30 p.m.The concert starts at 8 p.m., and organizers recommend arriving early to find a spot.In total, 84 nonprofits will participate in Arlington Gives! Causes range from children and animal welfare to health and homelessness.Throughout the day, Arlington Tomorrow Foundation will distribute $5,000 grants to four nonprofits with the highest number of donors in set time frames:
- 6 a.m. – 10 a.m.
- 10 a.m. – 2p.m.
- 2 p.m. – 7 p.m.
- 7 p.m. – midnight
During the concert, the foundation will award two $5,000 grants to nonprofits as part of a random drawing. Recipients must be present to win.Arlington Tomorrow Foundation also created a pool of $20,000 to distribute to small nonprofits with annual operating budgets less than $250,000. Eligible organizations must attend the concert and set up a table as part of the nonprofit showcase to receive a grant.“We want to help the small nonprofits grow,” Mentesana said. “Arlington Gives! is a great opportunity for small nonprofits to get their name out.”Additionally, the Gene and Jerry Jones Foundation will present a $10,000 People’s Choice Award, selected by concertgoers who will vote for their favorite Arlington nonprofit.This year’s concert will have special significance. North Texas Giving Day, Arlington Tomorrow Foundation and Levitt Pavilion are all celebrating their 10-year anniversaries.Arlington Gives! is an excellent way to celebrate.“The mission of the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation is to help Arlington-based nonprofits grow and thrive and make Arlington a better place to live and work,” she said. “North Texas Giving Day is a great way to shine a light on the nonprofits that do so much for our community.”
