Certified Food Protection (CFM) Manager
Effective January 20, 2010, every Food Establishment must have at least one Certified Food Manager (CFM) at each location, who is responsible for supervising food preparation and service. Certification is obtained by passing a Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) approved certified food manager examination. The examination may be taken at any licensed Certification Training Program, Test Site, Online Exam or National Exam provider. Certification is valid for five years. Information can be found at Texas Department of State Health Services – Certified Food Manager (CFM) Program. Once the individual receives the certification, they must register in-person (Certified Food Manager Registration) with the City of Arlington within 30 days.
All Certified Food Protection Managers must be registered with the City of Arlington.
All new or remodeled food establishments are required to submit plans to be reviewed for compliance with health code regulations. As a part of this process, construction or structural design inspections are performed. All facilities must go through this process before a health permit to operate can be issued. In addition to the health permit, a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) is also required to be approved and issued prior to opening for business. The CO can be obtained through the Community Development & Planning Department, which is located on the 2nd floor of City Hall at 101 W. Abram St., phone 817-459-6502.
