About One Start Development Center

The City of Arlington’s One Start Development Center, a part of the Community Development & Planning Department, was created in 2006 in order to provide the public with a single destination for their building construction and related land improvement needs.

The Center consists of approximately 50 people and includes engineers, city planners, building plans examiners, building inspectors, health, fire, general permitting and customer service personnel. This wide range of expertise ensures that each question or concern receives attention from a professional with knowledge in that specific area.

Visitors to the One Start Development Center begin the process by checking in with the Information Desk on the 2nd floor of City Hall. Depending on their specific needs, they will then be able to speak to the Engineer of the Day, Planner of the Day or Building Plans Examiner of the Day. The public is also able to submit a full range of development applications, obtain miscellaneous building and construction permits, schedule inspections, pay all applicable fees, and consult with various city staff professionals by appointment at the same location.

Arlington’s One Start Development Center was designed with the needs of the customer in mind. Customers are invited to stop in for any development related issues that need attention or just to see how the process works. The Center’s primary goal is to move customers through the city’s review process as quickly and reliably as possible so that they can fully achieve their goals.

The Center is open between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Questions or concerns may be directed to (817) 459-6502.
