The City of Arlington has achieved the Insurance Service Office’s highest Public Protection Classification, an elite designation that is expected to save homeowners and commercial property owners across the city on insurance premium costs. The ISO’s Class 1 designation represents exemplary fire protection, including fire department resources and capabilities, the City’s water supply system and the fire dispatch system and capabilities. This classification, which was officially awarded to Arlington on March 1, 2018, is held by only about 300 of 49,000-plus agencies nationwide that have been evaluated.
What does the PPC system mean to me?
The Public Protection Classification (PPC) program recognizes the efforts of communities to provide fire protection services including water supply and distribution, (911) receiving and handling fire alarms , and fire department capabilities. Some insurance companies use the PPC information to help establish fair premiums for insurance. By offering economic benefits for communities that invest in their firefighting services, the PPC program provides additional incentives for improving and maintaining public fire protection. The PPC program also provides help for fire departments and other public officials as they plan, budget and justify improvements. The most significant benefit of the PPC program is its effect on fire losses. The better the fire protection, the lower the fire losses. This results in lower insurance rates.
