2017 MLK Collegiate Scholarship

Enter the Arlington MLK Spirit of Service Collegiate Scholarship

The Arlington MLK Celebration Committee funds a $1,000 scholarship especially for students enrolled at UT Arlington and Tarrant County College-Southeast Campus.

Essay Topic:  “Advancing the Dream: A Nation of Freedom and Justice”

The entry deadline is November 18, 2016

This scholarship will help defray the cost of tuition and books for a deserving student who demonstrates a commitment to community service and academics.  Submissions are also evaluated on financial need.

Requirements include:

  1. Demonstrated commitment to community service
  2. Must be a sophomore, junior, or senior who has completed 30 hours of more.
  3. Minimum 3.0 GPA
  4. Full-time status (12 semester hours or more)
  5. Demonstrated financial need (FAFSA score for 2016)
  6. Essay must not exceed 1,500 words

Application shall also include two letters of recommendation from two faculty members and/or community leaders, a statement of community service achievement, and an essay on community service.

Topic:  “Advancing the Dream: A Nation of Freedom and Justice” (What can be done today to help make Dr. King’s dream of freedom and justice a reality in our community?)

How to Enter:

Complete an application form, which may be picked up in the UT Arlington University Center Operations Office  or Tarrant County College-SE Campus Student Activities Office.

Winner will be notified in December and formally recognized at the MLK Advancing the Dream Awards Banquet on Friday, Jan. 13, 2017.

The MLK Spirit of Service Scholarship is made possible by the Arlington MLK Celebration Committee, which includes the City of Arlington, UT Arlington, Tarrant County College and the Arlington Ministerial Association with funding support from community sponsors and individual contributors.
