Time Capsule to Commemorate City’s First 130 Years

Who: City of Arlington

What: Ceremonial time capsule burial

When: 8:30 a.m. Thursday, July 17, in Arlington

Where: City Hall Courtyard, 101 W. Abram St. in downtown Arlington. Burial will occur in front of the Texas historical marker, which was erected in July 2007.

Why: To commemorate Arlington’s 130th birthday. Time capsule includes several videos highlighting the city’s first 130 years, fact sheets, brochures, flyers, commemorative key chains, maps and more. The dedication will be led by Ron Wright, chairperson of the Arlington 130th Anniversary Committee.

City officials say the time capsule is expected to be re-opened in 70 years as part of Arlington’s 200th birthday celebration. The City was founded on July 19, 1876.
