Engineers Turn Dreams Into Reality

National Engineers Week is February 19 to 25, 2012. The City of Arlington, along with numerous corporations and government agencies, will take part in this nationally recognized celebration in order to recognize the contributions engineers make to society and the importance of the profession.

City of Arlington engineers will be recognized during the February 21 City Council meeting when Mayor Robert Cluck issues an Engineer’s Week proclamation.

During the celebratory week, City engineering staff  will visit schools to conduct presentations on engineering, water conservation, stormwater management as well as emphasize the importance of learning math, science and technical skills. The school visits will also provide an opportunity for the engineers to promote the “Introduce a Girl to Engineering” campaign which is celebrating its 11th National Anniversary.

According to the National Engineers Week Foundation, girls lose interest in fields such as engineering by the time they enter college.  The idea behind “Introduce a Girl to Engineering” campaign is to raise awareness so that girls and young women feel empowered to pursue possible career options in the engineering field.

“The City of Arlington will draw upon the diverse and creative talents within the City’s engineering pool to communicate the impact, value and contribution that engineers make to our community,” said City of Arlington Civil Engineer Valery Jean-Bart.
