Arlington to Host Kite Festival at River Legacy Parks

The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department will host its annual Kite Festival at River Legacy Parks in north Arlington on Saturday, April 13, 2013, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The festival will include kite-building workshops, kite stunt demonstrations, kite contests, face painting, a bounce house, concessions and more. The kite contest is $5 for each participant and free for observers. Pre-registration is not required.

This popular Arlington spring event typically has more than 1,000 attendees, per year. Ernie Smith, Elzie Odom Facility Manager, said the event is one many Arlington residents look forward to every year.

“The Kite Festival at River Legacy Parks is always a sight to see, and this year will be nothing short of spectacular,” Smith said.  “The phones are ringing off the hook about this year’s festival. Families, friends and photographers will be out to enjoy the activities and we are very excited about it.”

The kite contests will be open to all ages and begin at 12:30 p.m. Contest categories include: Best in Show, Most Unusual Kite and Highest flying Kite. Ribbons will be given out for first, second and third places, in each category.

[…] Kite Festival at River Legacy Park […]

So it’s $5 to be in the contest and free to do all the other stuff? Or free only to watch everyone fly kites? The wording is a little confusing. Thanks for your help!

In regards to the Kite Contest, must all entries be homemade, or will any store bought kites be allowed?

Do we register for the event at the park or do we have to register on-line/over the phone?
