Move with MAX: UTA Students Love the New Service

Ridership remains steady on the Metro ArlingtonXpress, or MAX, buses cruising down Arlington streets, and that has city leaders excited about the future.

The service currently connects the College Park District on the campus of UT Arlington to the Trinity Railway Express’ CentrePort/DFW Station, allowing passengers to head over to Fort Worth or Dallas–all for $5.

Bus drivers have noticed a steady stream of UT Arlington students riding MAX since its August 19 launch. They receive a 50% discount on all fares, which really helps young people working with a tight budget.

It is wonderful that the students are enjoying the MAX. However, why are the Arlington taxpayers paying the big portion of the $700,000 bill instead of UTA and the students? The majority of riders of this project was projected to be UTA students. UTA is contributing $230,000 to the first year operations of this project. Why? What are John Hall and UTA thinking? UTA already operates a small fleet, and knows what costs there are. The fact that two private sector companies offer the AISD charter bus service at $70/hour leads me to believe UTA could run their smaller buses… Read more »
