The public is invited to attend a free screening Thursday night of the documentary “Waking in Oak Creek,” followed by a panel discussion designed to promote positive dialogue around race and racial reconciliation.

The Arlington Police Department collaborated with Not In Our Town to show the documentary, which is about powerful leadership by law enforcement and strong community engagement in the aftermath of the devastating shootings at the Sihk Temple of Wisconsin in Oak Creek by a white supremacist.

Police Chief Will Johnson and Arlington area faith and community leaders will hold a panel discussion afterward to discuss lessons learned from the film and the importance of community engagement by law enforcement to help build safe and inclusive communities for all.

The event is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. at the University of Texas at Arlington’s Lone Star Auditorium in the Maverick Activities Center, 500 W. Nedderman St.

Not In Our Town, a national program, is supported by the Department of Justice and the International Association of Chiefs of Police Civil Rights Committee.

There are no registration requirements or fees to attend the event. For more information, contact the Arlington Police Department’s Community Support Division at 817-459-5725.
