About 49 million Americans are food insecure, which means they may not always have access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food.

But you can help provide meals by participating in the 24th annual Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on Saturday, May 14th.

The process is simple. All you have to do is put any nonperishable food in a bag by your mailbox on the second Saturday of May and the mail carriers will pick it up, according to the National Association of Letter Carriers website.

The NACL encourages everyone to participate in the event. Donations made by Arlington residents will stay in the community.

This year’s food drive has a simple message to show how the donations help real people in real situations. Rebecca, a young single mother who left a violent relationship and was laid off from her job, reached out to the food bank. With the food bank’s help, she was able to get back on her feet and finish nursing school.

Those who participate this year are encouraged to share their photos on social media labeled #StampOutHunger. Your pictures could be posted on one of the official food drive social media pages. Photos are due on or before May 14th.
