December 2016 Student-Athlete of the Month: Brittany Breen

Brittany Breen, junior for Lamar High School’s girls swim team, has been selected as the City of Arlington’s Student-Athlete of the Month for December 2016.

Brittany’s story is a unique one because she is visually impaired. However, that hasn’t prevented her from being a strong leader and captain of the swim team.

She also excels inside the classroom, playing multiple instruments and pursuing her dream of a college degree in music composition. Her favorite event in the water is the breaststroke, but Brittany also participates in most individual events and relays.

Brian Dangelmaier, the head swimming coach at Lamar, continues to be impressed by Brittany’s impact on her fellow teammates.

“She fit in immediately and she’s been a great example for all of our student-athletes,” Dangelmaier said.

Brittany’s story is an inspiration to many students at Lamar High School and people living throughout Arlington.

“This is just advice for anyone,” Brittany said. “Sometimes it seems like the odds are stacked against you and you don’t really know yourself how you’re going to get through it. But if you stay strong and keep that resolve and determination, it will eventually all work itself out.”
