Dreams Come True in Arlington: Hometown Star Maren Morris Wins 1st Grammy

Arlington native Maren Morris continues to live her dream as a country music singer/songwriter. She can now add Grammy Award-winner to her long list of accomplishments after taking home the award for Best Country Solo Performance on February 12, 2017.

Morris received the award for her song “My Church” and she also got the opportunity to perform a duet of “Once” with Alicia Keys in front of millions watching at home.

The 26-year-old country singer/songwriter was also named 2016 CMA New Artist of the Year and recently performed her new songs “My Church” and “80s Mercedes” on Saturday Night Live.

Morris caught her singing bug at West Elementary in The American Dream City and never looked back. She currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee, but she remembers the days of performing at The Grease Monkey in Arlington.

“They let me host a song swap every Thursday and I would just bring a new friend of mine each week to come play with me,” Morris said.

Mayor Jeff Williams visited Morris at her parents’ Downtown Arlington salon on December 27, 2016 and presented her with a proclamation on behalf of the City.

Morris is grateful for her time in Arlington and for helping her start her dreams of becoming a singer/songwriter.

“For Arlington to be called The American Dream City, I feel like being a person who comes from this town, was born and raised here, I feel like that’s a testament to my journey. Because I’ve certainly done that. I’ve made my dream come true.”

Morris’ The HERO Tour 2017 kicks off Feb. 2, 2017, and includes a stop in Dallas. Morris announced Tuesday that proceeds from meet and greets held after her concerts during the tour would be donated to the fine arts program at Arlington’s Bowie High School, where she graduated.
