U.S. News & World Report: Arlington Helping Lead the Way in AV Technology

Milo, a free autonomous shuttle service from the City of Arlington, is featured in an article by the U.S. News & World Report highlighting The American Dream City and other Texas cities as leaders in AV and driverless technology.

The City was recently named an automated vehicle (AV) proving ground and Arlington is the first city in the U.S. to offer ongoing AV service to the public.

“Arlington is heartened to be mentioned in a “best of” rating of transportation,” said Jay Warren, Marketing Communications Manager. “This shows people across Texas and the country are taking notice of the innovative, pilot programs The American Dream City is undertaking to explore new ways to provide transportation to our residents and visitors.”

Arlington is leasing two of these electric shuttle vehicles as part of a one-year pilot program to explore autonomous transportation technology in a real-world setting.

The Milo shuttle service launched in August 2017 and operates on select off-street trails in the Entertainment District before and after major events at AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Park in Arlington. The program is part of the Arlington City Council’s “Put Technology to Work” and “Enhance Regional Mobility” priorities.

“Arlington is unhampered by the previous investments in traditional forms of public transportation, which uniquely positions the City to pursue technology-based transportation solutions of the future,” said Alicia Winkelblech, assistant director of Community Development and Planning. “These new technologies are proving to be more efficient, cost effective and environmentally friendly. All of these are win-wins for the City of Arlington and set us as a leader in transportation in the 21st Century.”
