June Volunteer of the Month: Yessica Macias

Yessica Macias is the City of Arlington's Volunteer of the Month for June 2018.

Yessica Macias is the City of Arlington’s Volunteer of the Month for June 2018.

Congratulations to our Volunteer of the Month for June, Yessica Macias.

Macias joined the Arlington Police Department as a volunteer on November 15, 2017. While a volunteer, Macias attended the University of Texas at Arlington to earn a degree in criminal justice.  She was excited to volunteer for APD and quickly learned the procedures to assist the Warrant Unit.

Macias made more than 2,270 phone calls that led to the clearance of 260 warrants, which equates to more than $78,000 dollars.  She also volunteered during the Police Department’s quarterly Unidos meetings to translate for instructors as well as participated in training scenarios at Six Flags Over Texas.

Macias is fluent in Spanish and English, which has been a great help for the Crime Prevention Unit. Her knowledge of computers has made it easy to transition her into a volunteer coordinator position to help manage our other volunteers in the Better Impact system.  Her duties include entering information and making phone calls for our Hispanic Citizen Police Academy and ACAPP program.

The Crime Prevention Unit is proud of Macias, who recently graduated from UTA with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. She aspires to become an Arlington police officer in the near future.
