The 2018 Texas Rangers Summer Reading Program is now underway with the participation of the local libraries in 25 municipalities in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. This is the 18th year of the Rangers Summer Reading Program.

Rangers Hall of Fame broadcaster Eric Nadel is serving as the honorary chairman of the Summer Reading Club for the fourth consecutive year. He will be joined by Rangers pitcher Chris Martin and Fox Sports Southwest Rangers reporter Emily Jones in making reading appearances over the next several weeks at Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex libraries which are participating in the 2018 program.

All students in grades K through 12 are eligible and information and reading logs are available at any of the participating libraries. Students are asked to record the number of minutes they read from Monday through Friday over a four-week period on the reading log to become an official summer Reading Club All-Star.

All Reading Club participants are eligible for discounted tickets for the Rangers home game with the Los Angeles Angels on Friday, August 17. Students should check with their local library for specifics on how to earn the discounted ticket, which is priced at just $6.00 per student. Family members and friends may buy additional tickets at a discounted price for the August 17 game if purchased by mail in advance by Wednesday, August 15.

Each Summer Club reading participant who attends the August 17 game may also take part in a pre-game on-field parade at Globe Life Park in Arlington, weather permitting.

It was in 1969 that The Very Hungry Caterpillar was designed, illustrated, and written by Eric Carle, and Martin will read that classic children’s book at his appearance on Tuesday, June 26 at the Arlington Public Library. The Rangers are partnering with The World of Eric Carle and all youngsters who complete their logs and attend the August 17 Summer Reading Club game will receive a special Hungry Caterpillar statue.

Libraries in the following municipalities are participating in the 2018 Summer Reading Program: Arlington, Azle, Bedford, Burleson, Carrollton, Cedar Hill, Cockrell Hill, Corsicana, Crowley, Dallas, Duncanville, Euless, Farmers Branch, Flower Mound, Grand Prairie, Grapevine Hurst, Irving, Lewisville, Mansfield, Paris, Rowlett, Saginaw, Southlake, and Watagua.
