2019 Arlington Animal Essay Contest to Accept Entries Starting Jan. 7

Will you be a 2019 winner? The 2019 Arlington Animal Essay Contest begins accepting entries on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019. The deadline for entry is 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2019.

This annual contest, in its 18th year, is open to all students residing in Arlington city limits in third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades who attend either public, private, or home school.

Each year excitement grows as students anticipate the day of school visits when 12 essay winners are announced. The contest inspires thoughtful, creative writing that promotes a theme of responsible pet ownership, with an array of positive results to make students, families, teachers and schools proud.

Original essays that are submitted should be 500 words or less and must be typed or handwritten.

Each winner will be presented with a Kindle Fire HD compliments of Spring Creek Barbeque and the City of Arlington. Each winner will also receive a $100 savings account, compliments of EECU, Spring Creek Barbecue and the City of Arlington.

Essay Topics

Grade 3: If you had wings, what animal or insect would you be and why?

Grade 4: Our pets need food, water and shelter, but what more do they need?

Grade 5: What things should be done to improve the lives of animals?

Grade 6: In 2060, how will animal shelters be different than they are today?

Winners will be celebrated during a regular meeting of the Arlington City Council on Tuesday, March 5, 2019.
