Arlington Library’s Renovated Woodland West Branch to Reopen Feb. 2

The Arlington Public Library is excited to reopen its Woodland West Branch on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019. The popular branch at 2837 W. Park Row Blvd. was closed for renovations in 2018 and will reopen to the community with a day of festivities.

Please join us for the grand reopening, scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon on Feb. 2. After remarks from city officials and a ribbon cutting ceremony, enjoy activities with other book lovers. The branch will be open that day until its usual closing time of 5 p.m.

“The renovations will allow us to provide our best service at Woodland West,” said Acting Director of Libraries Norma Zuniga. “Woodland West is truly a community hub and we look forward to opening our doors once more to our patrons.”

During the renovations, which were highlighted in the MyArlingtonTV’s Bond Tracker segment last fall, improvements were made throughout the building. Woodland West’s storefront and entryway were remodeled to feature easily accessible swinging doors with push button automatic openers. Walls of windows at the front of the building allow natural light to the children’s section on the east side of the branch and the periodicals reading section on the west.

The public restrooms were also remodeled to be more accessible and to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Other updates to the building’s interior include new carpet and shelving. Three of the four rooftop HVAC units were replaced as well.

Longtime patrons will be happy to know that Woodland West’s distinctive children’s mural, decorative etched glass walls, and curved circulation desk remain unchanged.

The Woodland West Branch is one of the Arlington Public Library’s busiest locations. Woodland West has been in its current location since 1996 and serves a diverse neighborhood of dedicated library lovers. Despite being the system’s smallest branch, Woodland West circulates more books each month than other, larger locations.

The improvements to Woodland West are funded as part of a five-year, $236 million dollar bond package approved by Arlington voters in 2014. Click here to learn more about bond projects across The American Dream City.
