Four 7th grade students from Arlington ISD’s Carter Junior High School have new laptops and backpacks to help them succeed in school after winning an essay contest recently hosted by the Heart of Arlington Neighborhood Association, First Presbyterian Church in cooperation with the Carter Jr. High Community PTA.

Students who participated in the contest were tasked with writing an essay about what they would do with a computer and what benefits they expected having a computer would have in their future educational endeavors.

Congratulations goes to students Prosper, Isaiah, Mariana and Veronica for writing the winning essays and being awarded laptop computers and bookbags.

First Presbyterian Church, which is located adjacent to Carter Junior High, started the essay contest in 2017. Two students won the first year. Last year, the church partnered with the Heart for Arlington Neighborhood Association, Arlington City Councilwoman Lana Wolf and the community PTA to purchase four laptops and book bags for the 2018 essay contest winners.

“We all want to see Carter and the Carter students succeed,” HANA member Richard Thomas said.
