Crowning a Champion in Arlington

The beautiful new College Football Playoff National Championship trophy made a grand appearance at AT&T Stadium in Arlington Friday morning – but it won’t be its last. Look for the 2-foot-tall, gold, football-shaped trophy to be the center of attention Saturday night when the Florida State Seminoles, defending national champs and preseason No. 1, take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Advocare Cowboys Classic at AT&T Stadium. Florida State, Oklahoma State Clash Begins New Era in College Football

Good bye, BCS. Hello, football playoff season. The 2014 college football season begins and ends in Arlington as the defending national champion Florida State Seminoles face off against the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Advocare Cowboys Classic at AT&T Stadium. The season will wrap up in Arlington as well, when AT&T Stadium hosts the first ever College Football Championship Game on Monday, January 12, 2015. 24th Annual Yellow Rose Classic Drive on over to the Arlington Convention Center this weekend to see more than 200 classic, antique, late-model, and performance cars and trucks at the 24th Annual Yellow Rose Classic. Headed to AT&T Stadium? Remember the Bag Policy

AT&T Stadium has implemented a new policy on the types and styles of bags that are allowed inside. Bags should be one gallon re-sealable storage bags, or clear tote bags made of plastic, vinyl or polyvinyl chloride that dimensions do not exceed 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches. Clutch bags or purses no larger than 5.5 inches by 8.5 inches can be carried with a handle, strap or within an approved plastic bag. “Heads Up Football Across America” Tour Stops in Arlington

  Members of the Arlington Thunder Youth Football Association, featuring kids between ages 5 and 12, showed off their tackling skills for NFL Media’s cameras in town for the “Heads Up Football Across America” tour. The team began incorporating Heads Up Football  – USA Football’s national initiative to make football better and safer — on for the first time this season. NFL Media’s Melissa Stark provided live reports on NFL Network’s “Inside Training Cam,” showing how players “rip” through a tackle with an upward motion rather than lead with their head. Are You Ready for Some Footgolf?

  The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department will “kick off” its new FootGolf course at Meadowbrook Park Golf Course with FREE green fees from 12:00-6:00 p.m., on Saturday, Aug. 2. FootGolf is a combination of the popular sports of soccer and golf. Instead of golf clubs and golf balls, the game is played with a soccer ball and a 21-inch diameter cup. The rules mostly correlate with the rules of golf. While FootGolf is played throughout the world, it is estimated there are only 180 courses across the United States. Local Golfer Taking His Talents to Another Level

The road of life is paved with challenges, but for golfer and Arlington resident Stuart Deane, no challenge is too difficult. His golf career began in 1988 at age 16 when he discovered the game through a high school physical education program in his hometown of Brisbane, Australia. By 1989, Deane was playing the amateur ranks and winning tournaments.
