Local Golfer Taking His Talents to Another Level

The road of life is paved with challenges, but for golfer and Arlington resident Stuart Deane, no challenge is too difficult. His golf career began in 1988 at age 16 when he discovered the game through a high school physical education program in his hometown of Brisbane, Australia. By 1989, Deane was playing the amateur ranks and winning tournaments. UTA’s Gerlich to be Inducted into SCW Hall of Fame

UT Arlington women’s basketball coach Krista Gerlich is one of ten Texas Tech student-athletes who will be inducted into the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame this fall. “I was quite surprised when Gerald Myers called me to tell me about the induction,” Gerlich said. “I am so honored and humbled to be recognized by the SWC for my time at Texas Tech. Lacrosse Explosion in Arlington

Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing team sports in the country, and the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with Dallas-based Bridge Lacrosse to bring this amazing sport to Arlington. Thanks to a series of clinics held this week at Arlington Recreation centers, more than 100 boys and girls were introduced to the sport by Bridge Lacrosse coaches and players. Bridge Lacrosse is a small sports-based youth development nonprofit serving the urban communities of North Texas.

LPGA Hopefuls Come to Arlington

The Texas Women’s State Open has been a North Texas tradition from 1935 to 1955. During that time, the event was held in Fort Worth and was conducted by the Fort Worth Women`s Golf Association. The North Texas Pro Golfers Association brought back the tournament in 2001 in an effort to promote the game to more female golfers throughout the region. Now the tournament begins a new chapter at the newly renovated Rolling Hills Country Club here in Arlington on July 8-9. This is the first time that the City of Arlington has hosted this event. UTA’s Vaughan, 4×100 Relay Team Earn All-America Honors

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Monday the list of Division I student-athletes who earned USTFCCCA All-America accolades for the 2014 outdoor track and field season, and four UT Arlington sprinters were among those honored. Junior Clayton Vaughn led the way with First-Team All-America honors in both the 100 meters and 200 meters. One of just three athletes to advance to the NCAA final in both events, he placed sixth in the 100m and eighth in the 200m. July Football Classic Features Native American Student-Athletes from Across U.S.

The Native All-Star Football Classic (NASFC) returns to the University of Texas at Arlington’s (UTA) Maverick Stadium at 7 p.m., July 5th. Admission is $10 per person and includes free parking. Food and beverage concessions will be open, along with official NASFC souvenir booths offering hats, jerseys, t-shirts, sweatshirts and posters. Student-athlete applications are still being accepted for the NASFC and camp, which is traditionally held the first week of July. The weeklong camp includes a football combine, draft, practice, mentoring and entertainment, culminating with the 13th annual All-Star game. Six UTA Mavericks Selected in MLB Draft, Setting New Record

UT Arlington had three players selected on the final day of the 2014 MLB Draft on Saturday to bring the overall total to a record-breaking six draftees. Outfielders Ryan Bottger and Derek Miller joined pitcher Jess Amedee as Mavericks taken on the final day of the draft. UTA’s all-time draft total was raised to 48 overall with the six selections. The six drafted players broke a single-season UTA record, which previously was four. Bottger began Day 3 action for UTA as the outfielder went in the 12th round to the Houston Astros. Mexico, Ecuador Thrill Record Crowd at AT&T Stadium

    A record crowd filled AT&T Stadium Saturday afternoon for an international showdown between Mexico and Ecuador during a World Cup warm-up match.  Pavel Pardo, one of the most iconic players in Mexican history, joined the pro-Mexico crowd to cheer on his fellow countrymen. In a bruising game televised by ESPNews and Univision, Mexico topped Ecuador 3-1 in front of 84,476 fans – a venue record crowd for a soccer match in Texas.
