Second Arrest is Made in Capital Murder Case

The Arlington Police Department has made a second arrest in the capital murder case of April Vancleave. Mrs. Vancleave was attempting to sell jewelry to raise money for Christmas in December 2016 when she was murdered while leaving a retail store.

Alex Menor Diaz was arrested by officers assigned to the United States Marshals Service North Texas Fugitive Task Force on Friday, June 16, 2017 in Keller without incident. He goes by other names so confirmation of his true identity is ongoing. He remains in the Arlington Jail with initial bond set at $1 million.

Earlier in February 2017, Mario Hernan Lopez Gamez was arrested and charged with Capital Murder for his role in the case.

 Arlington Police Investigating Fatal Shooting

Arlington police detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred on December 15, 2016 around 12 p.m. in the 3500 block of Timberwood Circle.  A female in her early 30s was shot while in the parking lot.  She was transported to the hospital where she later died.

 While it’s still early in the investigation, detectives have not ruled out robbery as possible motive.  Investigators are interviewing witnesses and canvassing the area.

The identity of the deceased will be released by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office once next of kin has been notified.

Oak Farms Dairy is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and grand jury indictment of the person or persons responsible for the woman murdered on December 15, 2016.

Detectives confirmed April Vancleave was trying to complete an online exchange for Christmas money.  She agreed to meet the buyer near Target on South Cooper Street and Arbrook Boulevard.  When the buyer didn’t show, she returned to her apartment complex where she was confronted in the parking lot by an unknown individual and shot during an altercation.  Vancleave later died from her injuries at a local hospital.

Police are seeking the public’s help in locating the two men that are shown in the surveillance video.  Arlington detectives believe they may have information that may lead to the identification of the person or persons responsible for this homicide.

Video of two persons of interest from the homicide on Dec. 15, 2016 has been uploaded to YouTube.  The footage captures two males walking out of the Target on South Cooper Street at Arbrook Boulevard.  The two then leave in a red pickup truck.
